White Fang is a book that explores the possibility and realism of nature and survival. The book focuses on the power of nature and civilization together, and the usage of environment shaping the characters. It discusses the wolf’s harsh life when dealing with humans and learning the meaning to survive, until someone takes him in and he learns the feeling of love and compassion.
White Fang is a brutal story that closely follows the wolf's emotional development and rough life. The 1991 Disney film switches the point of view to a boy, Jack, who becomes the main character. The movie also focuses on toning down the violence and showcasing the human, animal bond. The 2018 animated Netflix version goes even further in simplifying the story for children, removing most of the fight scenes, adding a female character, Mrs. Scott, and changing characters such as Scott into a marshal, which helps bring out the themes of friendship and nature's beauty instead of the original book's harsh laws of nature.

White Fang is a novel that follows the life of a wolf, White Fang, in the wild of the Yukon. The story shows how in a merciless nature, White Fang has to learn survival from the day he was born. There is violence everywhere, among animals and even humans. He is forced to learn the "Law of Meat" in order to survive the famine and the dangers of the forest, one of which is a deadly encounter with a lynx that kills his father, One-Eye. After being taken in by Gray Beaver, White Fang is taught by Gray Beaver to walk through the camp of the "Gods" while Lip-Lip, the dog, is tormenting him. This cruel environment shapes him to become a fierce and solitary fighter, a reputation that made villainous Beauty Smith, a dog, fighting master, the character most likely to benefit from it, take an interest in him. The story finally changes to a gentle one, wherein the wolf is tamed with care by a nice owner, Weedon Scott, who saves him from Beauty Smith, and then leads him to love and a peaceful life in California.
